March must be a month many mull mango.
A year ago, I wrote of an article in the Penn State "Collegian" that noted that to raise awareness for the March National Nutrition Month, their seven dining commons were running a "Favorite Fruit Campaign" in which students voted for their favorite.
Which fruits were out front? Strawberries and (of course) Mangoes!
This March, I see Mango was selected among the top fruits by Cara Rosenbloom, RD, a Senior Nutrition Specialist in an article on MSN.
Rosenbloom notes mango is a great source of fibre, Vitamin A and E and are high in antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, which may help protect vision and reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (the leading cause of blindness in adults).
I say that is pretty sweet!
You can also find on our website in "Mango Recipes & Resources", a truly fantastic article that ranks fruit by their nutritional value - called "Fresh Food Comparison". It was written by a food industry watchdog, The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a few years ago..
The accompanying chart to the article is excellent as a reference. Print it and put it on your fridge! I reread this article every so often as it is a superb reminder of those fruits that can really bless your body.
(And of course, our favorite - Mango - was a Gold Medal Fruit!)
